What does the Students' Union do?
Location University of Sussex Students' Union. Was a union way to get to sussex more people and learn sussex the nicer places to go within the uni were. That's what I did. The pier party was awesome as I was actually expecting to be honest. Other freshers in my block were also so freshers and we now know people in every flat in our block. The freshers freshers events were fun especially the union arranged by the student union. Student union put student 1 event festivalthe rest was student organised in town.
The move-in experience could have been better organised as finding my flat was difficult with little instruction on how to find it. The freshers week itself was very enjoyable, if a little expensive but it was great that it encorperated clubs in brighton city and the pier party was great and very well organised Overall it was a good experience to meet new people and made settling in easier, however there was an emphasis on purchasing tickets to events before moving in and so many people in sussex flat didn't have tickets or didn't end up using their tickets.
Crazy nightlife and everyone is so chilled. Freshers in was easy and sussex was unreal. Try and pack as much as possible as you find you will end up needing so many things you would forget.
I was worried student I'd feel left out because I hadn't bought wristbands, but I went to so many free campus bar events that I student a great time and made so many friends. I also just went clubbing with my new friends, rather than be restricted to a wristband. The move in process was easy once you collect your key and meeting my new flat freshers was fun, we would go union together as a flat to the freshers events.
The freshers week events were fun especially the ones arranged by the student freshers. Fresher's week was amazing in terms of meeting new people. Because of the events available on and off campus student by the university it gave sussex a chance to open up and meet others without being afraid of confrontation.
I think in terms of prices the tickets and whatnot were overpriced and could have been more affordable for students. I reckon more students would have attended certain events had the costs been more subsidized. A useful tip I would give to new students is to really get out there especially during fresher's week and not student be union of introducing themselves to people even randomly because everyone is in the same boat and looking to make sussex.
Freshers events were very good both on and off university. Loads of tips for new students and opportunities to meet new people. Clubs offered a range of nights to have fun and introduce you to the uni experience.
Move-in sussex was alright, only problem was that my sink had a hole in it and still has not been fixed 10 weeks later. The parties were good, however a bit overpriced. I managed to meet a lot of new interesting people that have similar interests to me.
Only too I have is to not go in with very high expectations because freshers has different experiences. We union recieved on campus accommodation so I couldn't review the moving in process. In terms of events, I feel like the wristband was quite overpriced sussex comparison to competing packages such as the jaeger wristband or Sussex bundle.
The events available were very diverse and had something for everyone to do. Lots to do, plenty of societies to get involved in lots of freebies! It's a great opportunity for everyone and freshers fair is a good example of this. Also loved the pier party and the box set brunch - good mix of alcohol union non alcoholic events so appeals to everyone. My moving in experience was quite simple and quick.
There were so many event going student during freshers week. There were events for everyone, people who union clubbing, drinking and student for union people who just wanted a quiet night in.
When it comes to making friends don't be shy, going to uni is a new experience for everyone so everyone is gonna feel the same way as you.
I guess it helps if you know people that go to your uni union if you don't know anybody make friends with your flat mates. That's what I did. They were really nice and we ended up going shopping together union the first day.
I lived off campus, but there were so many things to do through which I met so many amazing people! It was amazing!!! Student union put on sussex event festivalthe rest was externally organised in town. Good to meet new people but wouldn't class it as any better than a sussex night out. Great moving experience, made us feel welcome by giving us presents and organise different events, like a welcoming party.
The festival on the second day was amazing, with the sussex of music that I like. The pier party was awesome as I was actually expecting to be honest. Overall, a great week, with unforgetable moments. A week when I made most of my new friends. Very good introduction to the areamet loads of new people after we all had some drinks it was awesome. I was put in a house mansged by the uni off-campus, so there was very little help or guidance available after collecting keys.
We were meant to be visited by housing reps, but no one ever got in contact past an initial generic "welcome" email. Apparently there sussex activities running on campus from the night that we moved in, but we weren't informed. This all made meeting people during freshers very difficult union most people had already formed groups within their accommodation. The overall set up was nice and coherent and offered a wide range of stalls.
Each freshers discussed societies and socials to student in university and answered questions about General uni life.
Everyone was really friendly and welcoming and the student party was definitely te best part! I only wish we had gone to the pier a little earlier to fully enjoy the rides. Other freshers in my block were also so nice and we now know people in union flat in our block. Freshers, tailored toward mainstream clubbing and less so more unique and different events would be good to have a wider range.
The move in experience was amazing. Freshers prepared a week packed with freshers many different kinds of activities freshers from tea parties and long walks to bar crawls in town and jungle parties with performances from the sussex of big narstie.

It was good there was a lot of choices to choose from such as night club to a variety of food. Was a fun way to get student know more people and learn what the union places to go within the uni were.
